Detail of a painting

Posted by Rabbit (Richmond, United States) on 24 February 2009 in Art & Design.

This is the DETAIL of a painting by a VCU student named Henry Winfiele titled: Cell Painting. As I was walking to class one afternoon I stopped by their little gallery and looked in. This painting caught my eye. I thought this was very interesting how there were layers upon layers upon layers of paint on this canvas & then they cut out little circles to expose the layers of paint.

I know you may be thinking how on earth does this realate to ceramics. Well, for me I like recognizing that my influences for my ceramics come from many different things around me. This technique could be something that could later show up in my work.

It will be a while before you may see this influence though for right now I'm on a lace kick! Soon you'll see what I'm talking about.

Going to school to work on applying the lace,
