Yes who? Who ate all the GLAZE?
I thought it was funny that this batch of pinhole cameras all looked as if they had their mouths open in that *shocked looked* The part that looks like their mouth opening is where the shutter cap will go. The pinkish cat one on the right has a shutter cap that looks like a name tag for a pet. The middle one actually has an open mouth and the one on the other end. The green and white one has a green button-like design to match the button-like design it already has on it.
I received a sweet and inspiring comment as I was working hard on my cameras from a lady who was passing by to go into the other clay studio. She stops by and asked what I am making "what kind of characters are these and do they open or serve some other function?"
I excitedly reply "yes, they do open and they will be pinhole cameras." (to my surprize she knew exactly what a pinhole camera was) Are you more a ceramics artist or photographer? or Both? I told her I do most of my studies in ceramics, and prefer the more simple side of photography.
So then she asked if I was a teacher? - - - - *blush* no, however, I am working on trying to get into Grad school. She looks at the pieces and says "well then don't worry you will surely get in with those."
Awwwwwwwww - just what I needed to hear. Really. Its been so difficult trying to find my path in art. I have always needed to make things to feel happy. Lately as I have made these interesting character cameras, it has given me new light *ha thats good pun being that i'm describing cameras* A hope of some kind. Even if I don't get into Grad school with these cameras, I still feel more complete than I have in a long time.

@Sara: he he hehehehehehe - it is ODDLY cute. Like in a mmmm - what am i thinking - oh i know reminds me of egyption (not sure if i even came close to spelling that right) artwork like an egyptian scrofulous.
I love your story! That was very cute and sweet what the lady said to you! It's always nice to get a sincere compliment like that. From somebody who doesn't know you at all. Lets just say its different than when your mother tells you! You do have a great talent! I don't know anybody else who makes these. :) And... for some odd reason, these remind me of owls, which I LOVE. hoot hoot! :-o

@Tamara: Ya know they eyes do sorta remind me of owls. It could be because owls have the distinct markings and shapes similar to the pointed shapes of these characters. I will have to make one now that is more bird like. Thanks for the inspirtion.
I was already amused to see these interesting critters that pretend to be pinhole cameras, but the notion that they got into the glaze and ate it all is downright hilarious!

@Anthony: I have been searching for some kind of direction to take my clay for a while. Then I came across a pinhole camera made from an oatmeal box website. It sparked my interest in wondering how many different shapes I could make out of clay and use as a camera.
I love it! It is really an amusing sight. They have so much personality.
What a sweet story too.
