We Are Like Trees

mmmmm - I'll be right back.
i'm making a cup of coffee to sip on while i type up a story.

The smell of fresh brewed coffee in the air.
i sit for a bit and stare at this photo letting the story come to me.

A nice January day in the 70's. I decided when i get off work today i'll go back to Maymount park where my friend and i discovered this fantastic tree and take another shot of it. Arriving at the park bout 4:00pm the sun still giving its bright smile of light, i walk toward the place where this tree resides. I notice a girl sitting at the base of the tree this time - i wonder if i should wait & come back... then i think well pinhole photos are odd on faraway details. Somethings you can see pretty clear and others depending on their colors just fade into the photo - besides *i think to myself* i like people in my photos what the heck.

The girl under the tree looks to be reading text books, i presume that she is most likely in college, she just has that older college look to her as she changes position and holds up her text book. She picks up her phone & makes a call * i start to wonder if i'm weirding her out b/c i'm prob 200 feet away from her with this ceramic item (i'm sure she can only see its a small pink box) facing her and i'm mumbling (actually counting) * But then i just let the thought go as i reach into my bag & pull out my new lux light meter. Its grey & orange with a small group of buttons on it - to change the sensitivity levels. ---A LUX LIGHT meter you may wonder why i decided that was the best choice of meter--- well, it was because a photographer light meter telling me f/stops will not do me much good. Since my f/stop is a permanent number of about f/350. The other reason for not using a regular photographers light meter is because a good one is super EXPENSIVE. So i found this one to be wonderful - it will give me accurate readings from starlight to BRIGHT SUN for about a quarter of the cost of those OTHER light meters.

So back to the story - i get out my light meter it reads 25,000 Lux - that means an exposure of about 4 minutes. I sit & i count out the rest of the exposure time. The girl at the base of the tree moves a bit & i realize she will probably not even be in the photo with as much as she has moved during my exposure. Time to put the shutter cap back on & place my ceramic pinhole camera into my homemade film changing bag. i get up with the sun still shining & watch it slowly descend behind a hill. It was a pretty sunset and a nice way to close the session of pinhole picture taking.

May all your days have pretty sunsets,
