Wedging Clay

Posted by Rabbit (Richmond, United States) on 12 November 2007 in Art & Design.

The wire slices through the moist clay similar to using a cheese cutter on fresh mozzarella. i take the piece i cut and place it on a metal scale - it's one that was used to weigh packages, but the only thing this one has weighed the last 2 years that i know of is clay. i think it likes its new job tho. i bend to read the numbers that the dial sits between and it reads 3 pounds i then look up and to the right recalling the phrase to wedge 25 times for each pound of clay. So to the table i go. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, i continute to count in my mind as i also think to myself did i remember to pay my credit card bill? humm i should check on that later 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38 i wonder how my mom is doing, i'll have to call her tomorrow. 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65 Oh yeah only a couple more to go... 73, 74, 75, 76, 77 for good measure.

-Wedging is the first step when making something out of clay.
