40 Seconds to Success

So can anyone tell me what today is? Hummm? I'm listening <hand cupped to ear>? Why yes, you are correct my darlings its Pinhole Fridays < i imagine it being said like the announcer for Johnny Carson > wow i just realized that would be funny to say to people younger than me, they probably don't really know who that is - i suppose i should say Jay Lenno(sp) but that just doesn't have the same ring to it as "Heeeeeeeer's Johnny!"

So this one was the first successful image out of my pinhole. This is the 4th image produced. The first 3 were tested at 10 second intrivals. 10, 20, 30 then this one at 40 on a nice BRIGHT day.

Now i must make an exposure chart and get a light meter - any recommendations for a good one? maybe even a vintage light meter?

I am happy that i have as many people as i do who enjoy my photos, i know they are not comparable to some of the FANTASTIC photographers i have seen or get visited by, but as my theme of photos is about my pottery i must stick to it. - I do however get a little LEAD WAY now on Pinhole Fridays :D to take ANY kind of shot i want (since the camera is the pottery piece) YEAH! I appreciate all of you guys visits, comments, and support.

Ok thats enough of my shout out - i'm starting to sound sappy and we can't have that. So i'm off to make a black film changing bag (yeah i don't know if thats what its called but hey i think you guys know what i'm talking about) Yes - that means i sew also.

ohhh ghostly nice photo ... thosu i would ahve been more dynamic if you gave it a some sort of crazy laughing expression or so :)

oh and btw :p i know how dyslexia works i've been trying not to make the same mistakes since i was eleven ;)

@tyan: i cant read or i should say i have an extremely hard time reading & comprehending. I can read "how to" things because its in smaller bits, but i cannot comprehend most books or write papers or letters at least nothing formal. My dyslexica makes that very difficult.

However it has made me think & make things that other people have a hard time doing. So i'm not sad because of this difference. It has made me who i am - and i'm an artist! One day i hope to be an artist who is inspiring to others.

I showed Travis your picture and explained to him how you did it. He thought it was very cool. As do I.

I am feeling sick this morning. I fixed ALL of that oatmeal and ate a few too many cookies, just so I could get started on my pinhole this weekend. HA!

Very interesting shot. But when I hear "hereeeeeere's Johnny" anymore, I think of "The Shining."

I suggest maybe eBay for a vintage light meter. I sold one there that was about 60 years old a few months back --for around $5. It was a very simple incident model that was entirely self-contained and didn't use batteries. I think one that doesn't use batteries is somehow more appropriate for a pinhole camera.

Pinhole photography just sounds so intriguing. I'm not very good with the heavy technical bits but find enjoyment in just capturing photos of the beautiful world around us. I find your B&W shot quite interesting - the angle, the composition.

Hey Rabbit....I knew that this would be worth the wait...cracking shot as the first post...I love the pots but I love this...perhaps you should alternate pots one day and other stuff the next. You have lots to share with us....I'll feel cheated if I have to wait a week for another! No pressure of course :)

I'm a bit late I know, but I just wanted you to know how much I admired the full circle that you've created with this photo having made the camera, posed for the shot as well as figuring everything out thats needed and then taking a great photo - the transparency in the shot is really great!

nice image...but one query.... u got long exposure for this foto as it seems i can see thru u.....and can see the stairs behind ur head.....

@Anthony: yes - that is true you can see thru me a little bit. That is because I had to open the shutter, then go sit down take about 3 or 4 sec. then finish count to 35 get back up ... that means for about 6 to 8 seconds of the photo are exposed & i'm not there... does that help understand?

Congratulations with your pinhole!! I read some guidelines about how to build a pinhole and you have risen miles in my esteem because it's certainly not a shoebox with a pinhole! The result looks like the first potographs ever (Niepce), maybe a friend who takes the pic would be a solution to the problem Anthony noticed?

@Illuci: Humm um yes and no to it being a problem. I mean i don't mind. I like the ghostly image it makes. I do it more on purpose in future shots.

I might reconsider taking the darkroom class again just to use your pinhole.
